0630-Rained during the night. 63F/59F. Solar 48%. House Battery 12.4v.
0745-Study done. Verse for the day: "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you...if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them." (Luke 6:27-28, 32)
0800-Another shower passed while I was praying.
0830-Time to make breakfast. It is still cloudy.
A squirrel or a mouse attacked in the night and chewed up part of my roll of TP in the head. Traps must be set!
0900-Finished breakfast of cereal, toast with PB. Will begin prep for departure. Wind is from starboard on the beam at 10 mph. It will make it a bit more of challenge although steady wind is easier to counter.
0935-Found a mouse in my large shower bucket while re-rigging the kayak towing bridle. I let him go, despite the damage in the head last night. I threw him overboard and he swam like the dickens for shore along the hull, so I hustled to the bow to ensure he did not come back onboard! He didn't re-board and finally scrambled up on the rocks and hid in a hole to board another boat I'm sure! I should have taken video but did not anticipate the action.
I departed the site without incident and headed west toward the trail head at the west end of Mica Bay.
Rental Houseboat - Site N19
I looked for a potential anchorage close to the head of the Bay but deemed it too weedy. I proceeded closer to the trail head and tried to approach the dock but it was too shallow, though weeds may have made it look shallower than it was.
Nav Chart - Day 3, Leg 3, 3.6 Miles
Looked for an anchorage nearby under the cliffs along the north shore but it was too deep and the tie ups were not great, so I returned to the small finger bay I bypassed on the south side about 1/2 mile east of the trail head
Park Map - Leg 3
1100-First anchor set dragged so had to reset. 2nd try was successful. Leg 3 was 3.6 miles.
Destination Detail
1200-Did the dishes and noted a small boat came in to the trail head, a man and woman. Looked like they hiked the trail. Will see how far they go.
Bald Eagles Are Numerous
1300-It appeared I could be dragging anchor so I watched it closely for a while. The hikers returned after a short walk. Anchor seems secure. I had a glass of wine to celebrate. I may not hike today. Breeze is up to 10 mph or so and I want to be sure my anchor is holding. I may go first thing in the morning.
Weedy Anchorage - Difficult To Get A Good Set
Water temp is 65+F so I may take a swim though the weeds around the boat are a deterrent to that endeavor. I may wait until the wind drops and put out the second anchor to hold the boat away from the weeds.
1440-Finished dinner. Pork roast, potatoes, salad, roll, and red wine.
1550-Listeninng to my audio book "No Plan B" a Jack Reacher novel. Thawing strawberries for ice cream later. Solar is up to 90% form a low of about 43% this morning.
1720-Continued listening to the audio book after my ice cream treat. Watched three otters feed on something, likely a fish. They were pretty busy. I took lots of shots but at quite a distance. Then the rain chased me inside the cabin. Now cloudy.
Otter Family Trying To Share A Meal
1920-Did more in the audio book while trying to get more pics of the otters and maybe a moose. Turned it off for the last hour of light and got more shots of the otters. They ended up swimming around the boat. There were two adults with one kit. Got a few more shots, but no moose were observed.
More Feeding
Chomping Down Something!
1940-Had a Baileys before bed. Another rain shower passed. 66F/57F. Solar 90%.
0630-53F/45F. Solar 71%. Just before sunrise. I did not sleep well. Stiff mattress is hard on my joints. Will get used to it I hope.
Beautiful Sunrise
0815-Finished my study and prayer time. Verse for the day: Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4)
Will read my morning book "Why God Makes Sense In A World That Doesn't" by Gavin Ortlund.
0830-Time for breakfast. Then get ready to depart.
0930-Departed the boat site. Sunny with a light breeze. 55F.

1235-Put kayak ashore to get organized. Put away the yoke and put on the dashboard, tied the paddle float line, and put in the sponge. 68F/68F. Solar 79%. House battery 12.7v.
Tie Rings - Not Used
Port Side Tied To Rock
1300-Took a hike up to the top of the nearby ridge. Very open under the trees.
Hiked Rocky Ridge Above Landing
Looking Down Toward Boat Landing
1400-Had a snack to hold me until dinner. Rain threatening. 70F/67F. Solar 79%. I feel like it's nap time.
1450-Went for a walk and was examining the two tie rings in the rocks for suitability of the center position when I noticed a large rock smack in the middle. I thought to myself why would they put tie down rings with an obstacle like that right in the middle. Then it moved! It was a huge snapping turtle laying on the surface. It was between 1.5-2.0 feet in diameter. It was living and not a rock! I ran for my camera but he was too smart and gone by the time I returned. Lesson: Always have your camera with you!
Then a flock of mergansers drifted by feeding as they went. They appeared to be common mergansers.
Flock Of Mergansers
Very Colorful!
1500-Getting ready to grill a burger.
1550-Burger was still frozen and I forgot to pull out the beans which are now thawing. There is a light rain. Solar is 79% which will be max for the day. House 12.6v. 69F/67F. Snapping turtle resurfaced. Got a quick shot but not great.
Big Snapping Turtle
The wind blew up the side panel on the left side of the grill and it melted part of it as it lay along the hot part of the grill! I did not catch it right away. First time that has happened.
Cleared Enough For A Nice Sunset
1800-Still raining. Tried to sit on the aft deck but got chased in by the rain. Nevertheless, the sun is trying to break through the clouds.
1930-Sunset. Took a bunch of images while listening to my audiobook "No Plan B" by Lee Child. I will listen some more and hit the sack. 67F/63F. Solar 73%. House battery 12.5v.
Verse of the day from my study time: "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

1915-Walked the site briefly after making up the bed.
Finally A Break From The Long Day
2015-Sent multiple messages to those following me. Got dark early but no stars. I will finish my wine and hit the sack.
